Creative Storytelling: Writing & Comics Lab – Stonnington

Creative Storytelling: Writing & Comics Lab
Create stories. Build characters. Explore ideas. Find your creative voice.
Kosmovision Foundation’s Creative Storytelling: Writing & Comics Lab is a free 12-week creative program for young people aged 16–25 with a connection to the City of Stonnington.
Starting 7 October 2026 at Grattan Gardens Community Centre, Prahran, the program brings together creative writing, comics, character development, visual storytelling and worldbuilding in an inclusive and participant-shaped environment.
No previous writing, drawing or arts experience is required.
What will we explore?
Writing and storytelling
Explore voice, scenes, fragments, short-form writing and imagined stories.
Characters
Develop characters, relationships, motivations and different perspectives.
Comics and visual storytelling
Experiment with image, text, sequence and graphic narrative.
Worldbuilding
Create places, imagined worlds and possible futures.
Creative experimentation
Use drawing, visual prompts, symbols, writing and collaborative making to develop ideas in different ways.
Throughout the program, participants will have opportunities to develop their own written, visual or combined creative work.
Creative wellbeing
The program creates an inclusive, non-clinical creative environment where young people can develop artistic skills, self-expression, confidence, connection and participation through sustained creative practice.
Creative activities can also provide distance when exploring meaningful ideas. Participants do not need to tell their personal story. A character, fictional conflict, comic, symbol or imagined world can hold an idea or experience instead.
Young people can participate at their own pace, use different creative approaches and decide what they would like to keep private or share with others.
Who is it for?
The program is for young people aged 16–25 who live, study, work or have a connection to the City of Stonnington.
We welcome young people with different creative interests, communication styles and ways of participating, including neurodivergent young people and young people who may experience barriers to accessing arts or community activities.
No diagnosis, referral or previous artistic experience is required.
A participant-shaped creative space
There is no single way to participate.
You might prefer writing, drawing, developing characters, creating comics, imagining worlds, experimenting with visual ideas or combining several forms.
There will also be opportunities for low-pressure, optional sharing. Participants remain in control of whether and how their creative work is shared.
